On October 9, 2018, A&M Industrial held its Steam Symposium, a day of technical presentations for companies managing their steam systems for optimal performance and energy usage. A&M Steam specialists Ed Beedle and Tom Lally, each with over 25 years’ experience with steam systems, presented as did Bob Workosky from Warren Controls on designing and maintaining steam systems. Energy leaders from Rutgers University and Bristol-Myers Squibb shared with the group how they implement energy savings in their organizations. All attendees received a 200-page Steam Source Book, containing the presentations from the day as well as product and technical reference information. Attendees also had an opportunity to meet with sponsoring vendors at their station to answer questions, including: Watson McDaniel, Warren Controls, Intertech, FLIR, Ashcroft, Apollo and the A&M Hose Shop.

A local gun manufacturer had been struggling with ways to productively manufacture a new product because every time they work on drilling the barrel of a batch of 6 guns, they would have to scrap 3 because of defects created in the two-step drilling process. The problem was that when drilling 8” deep the runout was sometimes as much as 0.008”, on a tolerance requirement of 0.005” max.
